Historic sites and monuments

The Historic Environment Record (HER) is a system for recording information about historic sites and monuments, such as archaeological sites and finds, designated sites, historic landscapes, historic buildings and other features in the landscape.

It includes a computerised index system, as well as hard copy detailed information on maps, photographs, reports, journals and other files.

Historic Environment Record information can be used for research purposes, to assess development proposals, and to manage and enhance North Yorkshire's countryside.

If you would like information from the Historic Environment Record, please read the documents in the 'Useful Downloads' and 'Frequently Asked Questions' sections below so that you can let us know precisely what you want, and we can deal with your inquiry more effectively.
