Benefits
North Yorkshire County Council do not provide any welfare benefits. The majority of welfare benefits are paid by the Department for Work and Pensions, with housing benefit and council tax benefit being paid from local district councils.

The Department for Work and Pensions provides benefits and services to a range of people, including: working age people who are: - looking for work;
- starting a business;
- unable to work;
- sick; or
- disabled
families and children who: - are expecting a baby;
- require child support; or
- are managing on a low income
people approaching or already in retirement who: - are in early retirement;
- have pensions; or
- receive winter fuel payments
disabled people and carers who: - are sick or unable to work;
- are long-term ill or disabled;
- have an illness or had an accident caused by work; or
- are bringing up children with special needs
Support from North Yorkshire County CouncilFor those assessed as needing support from social care services, welfare benefits, information and help with claims is provided by the benefits and assessment team as part of the financial assessment process, following completion of an assessment of your social care needs. The supporting people team processes claims for financial support towards meeting housing related support costs and pays the supporting people subsidy.
