Libraries - children's services
North Yorkshire's libraries have a huge range of books, audio books, CDs and DVDs for children of all ages. We can also provide Bookstart resources for the under fives.
Most of our libraries have an area for children to sit and relax, look at books and be read to. We also have regular storytimes and fun activities for children of all ages during the year, both in and out of school holidays. Whatever your age, you can find something worthwhile in our libraries. It is also free to join the library and you can even join online. See the how to join page for details. Library services for the under fivesIt's never too soon for your baby to join the library and start sharing books together. Every library has baby board books and picture books and there are no charges for lost or damaged children's books. Many of our libraries also have free 'storytime' or 'rhymetime' sessions for under fives, see your local library for details. You can also request your Bookstart gifts from any library or the Supermobile. See below for the Bookstart resources available. Our 'family matters' collection is available to help give advice to families. It covers many topics, from coping with tantrums (be it toddler or teen) to healthy eating and party games.
