Libraries - how to joinJoining the library is a quick and easy process. When you have joined your local library you are entitled to use any library in the County using the same card. It is free to join the library and once you have, you can borrow books, CDs, DVDs and more. You may also use the internet free for half an hour every day.
Anyone is eligible to join the library in North Yorkshire, regardless of where they live. You don't need ID to access our basic service, but you will need it if you want to borrow CDs and DVDs. Please note, due to geographical restrictions placed on our eBooks service by publishers, eBooks membership is only available to customers who are living, working or studying in North Yorkshire. How to join the libraryYou may join the library right now by filling in our online joining form. After registering you will be sent an e-mail confirming your membership (please ignore the ID requirements in the e-mail). Alternatively you can visit a library and join in person. Its free, you don't need any ID and you don't need to fill in a form. Once you have joined your local library, you can use any of our libraries across North Yorkshire. Looking after your library card and PINPlease look after your library card. If you lose your card, the first replacement is free but after that there is a small charge for a replacement. Please do not lend your library card to anyone. It is for your use only. To request a new PIN, whether you do not have one or you have forgotten it, you will need to call into your local library. For security reasons, we are unable to give out PINs over the telephone or via e-mail. The home library and information serviceThe home library and information service provides free home delivery of books, audio books, music on CD, DVDs, large print books, children's books and information to people who find it difficult to get to their local library. You may be eligible to receive the service if you are a carer, or because of ill health, disability or age, if you are unable get to the library yourself, or if you cannot carry books. Supermobile library serviceOur Supermobile library carries around 3,000 items of stock, including books, DVDs and audio books. The stock is varied and will satisfy most tastes, including those users who need information or those who are interested in local history. Disabled access is provided.
