Libraries - mobile library serviceNorth Yorkshire County Council mobile libraries deliver a library service to rural communities throughout the County.Currently there is a fleet of 12 mobile libraries and one Supermobile, which calls at over 800 hamlets, villages and towns in the area, usually with a number of different stops at each place. Each mobile library carries around 2,500 items of stock, including books, videos, DVDs, and audio books. The stock is very varied and will satisfy most tastes, including those users who need information or those who are interested in local history. Mobile libraries visit every three weeks. The Supermobile visits larger communities every week. You can find mobile library stops, dates and times on the mobile library search page. Joining the mobile library serviceYou can join the mobile library service by visiting the mobile library at your nearest stop. You will need to bring along something containing your name and address, a utility bill for example. To find your nearest mobile library stop, see the mobile library search page. When you have joined, you will be given a mobile library card. This card can be used at any mobile library as well as any library in North Yorkshire. Borrowing items from the mobile libraryThe mobile libraries have a wide range of books and other library stock. They also provide access to the full range of stock held by the library and information service. You may request items from a mobile library as you would with a local library. Any items that you request will be available for you to collect from the mobile library on a later visit to your area. If you miss a mobile library visit and you need to return borrowed items, you can return them to the mobile library on its next visit. Alternatively, you can also return any items borrowed from a mobile library to any local library. If this is not possible, then there are other ways of renewing your books and other items, including online and over the telephone. For more details, see the Libraries - loan renewals page. Please note, there are no overdue charges on the mobile libraries but charges do apply on the Supermobile. Requesting a new mobile library stopIf you would like a mobile library to stop in your area, please contact us on 01609 533800 or e-mail libraries@northyorks.gov.uk.
