Supporting young people leaving care

Leaving care is an important time in the life of many young people in North Yorkshire. The Children (Leaving Care) Act 2000 ensures that councils take responsibility for giving support to young people living in and leaving care.

The following will explain some of the issues care leavers face and some of the services and support that is available:

  • Legal status
  • Pathway plans
  • Personal advisers
  • Health
  • Education and employment
  • Accommodation
  • Practical skills
  • Financial support

Care leavers in North Yorkshire who have been in care in another authority can contact the leaving care team for assistance in an emergency. Other local authorities requesting a service for a young person need to make a referral via the customer services centre.

To contact the leaving care team, please contact the customer services centre who will be happy to help with your call.
