What are these services?

Taxi rank provision

Taxi ranks are provided on lengths of road to allow licensed hackney carriages to park and wait for customers.

The signs alongside the rank give details of the times and days when it is in operation and normally the maximum number of vehicles that are able to wait at any one time. Taxi ranks are located in areas to meet customer demand, such as near shops, bars and restaurants, and the times of operation can vary depending on the circumstances. Decisions about the location of ranks are taken in consultation with the local district council, as they are responsible for issuing hackney carriage licenses.
