What is the difference between a refugee and an asylum seeker?

An asylum seeker is someone who comes to the UK , leaving their homeland for a variety of reasons (some may be fleeing violence, war or persecution), and applies for refugee status. Until refugee status is granted by the Home Office, such a person remains an asylum seeker.
