Some services the directorates are responsible for are listed below.

Health and adult services
Social care for adults: older people; people with disabilities; support to vulnerable people and people living independently.

Business and environmental services
Roads and highways; strategic planning issues; minerals; waste disposal matters; street lighting; economic development; trading standards; public rights of way; archaeology and heritage.

Chief executives group
Strategic, regional and national issues; councillors; staffing matters; employment training services and communications, registration services, archives; library and information centres, legal and democratic services: statutory duties and code of conduct issues.

Children and young people's services
Education; youth work and support to children, children's social care.

Financial and central services
Level of (not collection of) council tax; debtor invoices; supplier payments and local government pension scheme.
