What are these services?

What courses do the Centres offer for adults?

North Yorkshire Outdoor Education Service is proud to be affiliated to, or approved by, many of the Outdoor and Adventurous Activities Organisations (otherwise known as the sports' Governing Bodies). These include the Royal Yachting Association for sailing, windsurfing and powerboating, the British Canoe Union, the British Orienteering Federation, the Mountain Leader Training Board, the Mountain Bike Instructor Award Scheme, the British Caving Association and Rescue and Emergency Care for first aid training.

We are able to offer a range of services to adults, with a strong emphasis on tailoring the course to our clients' needs. These can be based on a residential or non-residential basis, over any period of time and in a variety of locations. Most courses include full board and lodgings in addition to tuition, loan of specialist equipment and full transport whilst at the Centre.

Governing Body Award Courses

The service runs an annual programme of Governing Body Award training and assessment courses. Further details can be obtained from any centre or by downloading a brochure. If a course that you would like to do is not running this year, please ask us about putting it one for you as we will run courses if several people are interested.

Team Building and Management Training Courses

The Outdoor Education Service works with small groups of people in an environment which promotes team building as an essential skill. Developing this into specific team building and management training courses was an easy step forward. All of our team building courses are designed to get people to work together through a variety of activities which focus on team performance in a fun environment. We design courses to meet your specific needs.

Progression and Expedition Courses

In addition to the National Governing Body Award training and assessment courses that the service runs, we are keen to provide personal skills development courses to allow you and your friends or colleagues to develop and expand your skills in a specific area. For example, you could arrive as a beginner canoeist and leave at the end of five days with the skills to run white water rivers as well as a national certificate to prove it! We could then run an expedition to Wales or Scotland to put your new skills to the test and develop them further. If you can come up with the idea, we will try to make it happen.

We can provide these courses at any one of our Centres (residentially or for the day), as a course based from your venue or by meeting at the activity site. Please contact any of the Centres to discuss your specific needs.

Leisure Centres

In our increasingly busy world, time for leisure can be difficult to find. Why not spend some quality time with family or friends in the outdoors? We can put together a reasonably priced outdoor activities course for a day or weekend from any of our Centres. We can provide these courses on either a residential or day basis, as a course based from your venue or by arrangement to meet at the activity site. Please contact any of the Centres to discuss your specific needs.
