How are standards monitored?

We place great importance on training our staff. Catering staff in schools are not permitted to work unless they have received the relevant hygiene training.

Throughout their employment they receive additional training including:

  • NVQs in catering skills and professional cookery
  • Nutrition and healthy eating
  • Health and safety
  • Customer care

We have five Food Excellence and Skills Training (FEAST) kitchens across North Yorkshire, accredited by the School Food Trust which are used for training our staff.

The catering in all North Yorkshire schools is monitored by a team of officers to ensure meals are safe, high quality and value for money.

Monitoring Officers visit each school a minimum of two times per year unannounced and carry out a kitchen audit. In addition, Environmental Health Officers from the District Councils carry out regular inspections of our school kitchens.
