What is the transport policy for children over the age of 16?
The Local Authority (LA) will provide subsidised assistance with transport for students aged 16 years to 19 years. Transport assistance will continue for students who started their course before they were 19 provided that:
students make a contribution of £360 (charge from September 2013) towards their travel costs each year; the school/college attended is more than three miles from the student's home by the nearest available walking route; the school/college is the nearest school sixth form, sixth form college or college of further education to their home regardless of local government boundaries or is the sixth form of the secondary school which is recognised as the normal school for the student's home address; - Pupils/students are always expected to make their own way to the pick up point if it is reasonably close to their home/school;
- the school/college is the nearest establishment offering a course that the Corporate Director - Children and Young People's Service considers suitable to a student's career choice, or that is pre-requisite for entry into higher education.
