What are these services?

How can the supported employment service help me find a job?

Firstly, we will talk to you about your skills, abilities and wishes. This will enable us to plan your route to employment. After this, we can offer support and advice in finding employment with local businesses.

We can work with you to:

  • Identify your current skills;
  • Highlight any education or training needs;
  • Search for jobs;
  • Help you apply for jobs;
  • Support you at your interview, if necessary;
  • Link with employers;
  • Find work related benefit information; and
  • Link with other specialist agencies such as a disability employment adviser at Jobcentre Plus.

We will help you create a customised employment plan that will recognise your strengths and abilities as well as areas of vocational interest or expertise.

We can help you to find either paid or voluntary work by matching your abilities and interests to the most suitable vacancy. We can help you find employment that matches your individual wishes, for example we will help you find work, even if you only want to work for an hour a week. We can not only help you with searching for jobs but we can help you apply for suitable positions and provide support for any interviews you get.

Support for people with little or no work experience

We have helped people with different amounts of work experience to find meaningful and stimulating work with local businesses. These include people who have had no work experience at all, have just left school or further education, or who have been carers for some time.

There are many options available for you, even if you think you do not have enough experience or you have been away from the world of work for too long. Some of the ways we can help are:

Skills training
We can offer advice on gaining further skills through local training providers.

Work experience and job tasters
We can negotiate with local employers on your behalf for work experience and "job tasters" to develop your skills and work experiences before supporting you to find paid work.

Working interviews
We can also support an employer to offer a "working interview" if appropriate. This is a way of interviewing an individual "on the job", if a traditional style interview was not the best way of showing a person's skills. It could be described as a "reasonable adjustment" under the Disability Discrimination Act, to enable job seekers to access the job market.

Finding what employment and training options are available

There are many options available for employment and training but finding the right information can sometimes be difficult.

We publish a guide to employment and training options for people seeking employment or training, taking you through the options available for your circumstances.

Once you have found a job

After you have found a job, we can provide job support from your first day at work until you are fully independent.

We can also arrange relevant training if required. For more information on how we can support you in work, see the help and support in work page.
