What are these services?

Will I be charged?

North Yorkshire County Council's Children and Young People's Service are committed to the delivery of short breaks. The resources are used to prioritise services for the most vulnerable, but also designed, through our early intervention commitments, to offer services at the lowest possible level of need.

We want parents and their children and young people to have as much choice as possible in the type of short break available to them. We seek to deliver this through using a range of local providers, tailoring support to individuals and by making direct payments accessible for parents.

We acknowledge that in some rural areas there may be fewer opportunities for choice in short break settings, but seek to promote choice where it is available.

Children and families assessed as eligible to receive a service through the disabled children's social care team can chose to have a 'direct payment' to purchase alternative provision for a short break. During the assessment process your social worker will provide information on direct payments and direct you to the Direct Payments Support Service for more information.

We want to make sure our short break provision is effective and provides a high quality service to those who use it. We will, therefore, regularly evaluate the services provided through both statistical data and feedback from families. This feedback will inform the annual review of the Short Breaks Statement.
