Who does the Act apply to?
Young people are entitled to Leaving Care Services if they fall into one of the four categories:
Eligible Young Person
- Those aged 16 or 17 who have been in care for 13 weeks or more since they were 14 and are still in care.
Relevant Young Person
- Those aged 16 or 17 but have left care.
Former Relevant Young Person
- Those aged 18 to 21 years old and in further education which covers higher education or training.
Qualifying Young Person
- Those who have (1) either left care before October 2001 or after this date but have returned home successfully for more than six months, or (2) have been looked after beyond their 16th birthday but for less than 13 weeks.
