What are the aims of the Children (Leaving Care) Act 2000?

The main aims of the Act are to:
  • Make sure that young people do not leave care until they are ready and prepared to do so.
  • Improve the planning and preparation for young people about to leave care
  • Provide better support to young people
  • Improve the financial arrangements to support young people leaving care.

The Act came into force in October 2001 to improve the life chances of young people in or leaving care.
