Humphrey Head outdoor education centre

Humphrey Head Outdoor Education Centre is located five miles south of Lake Windermere on the shores of Morecambe Bay.

The centre is an isolated building which occupies a superb position overlooking the estuary of the River Kent with its ceaseless tidal changes and vast population of wading birds. Not far away, to the north, are the fells and lakes of the Lake District National Park giving boundless opportunity for study and activity.

Courses are tailored to the needs of individual groups. A proportion of outdoor pursuits may be included as the centre is fully equipped to provide this. Schools may, however, use the centre facilities to operate any type of course desired.

The range of activities includes

  • Environmental studies, Geology, Field studies, Ornithology.
  • Water pursuits - Sailing, rafting, canoeing, freshwater studies, seashore and marsh habitats.
  • Off-site activities -Rock climbing and orienteering.
