The library is in the marketplace, at the end near the phone boxes and post box. The bus station is a five minute walk from the library and is served by several buses including the 1, 1A, 1B, 1C and 21 buses. The nearby train station is served by trains on the York to Leeds line.
There is car parking for up to two hours on the marketplace, except on market day on Wednesdays. There are several parking spaces for disabled users available near the front of the library on the marketplace. The Castle Yard, Chapel Street and Fisher Street car parks are also within a few minutes’ walk and all offer up to four hours of parking.
The library has automatic doors and all public areas are accessible to wheelchairs.

You can borrow a range of books for all ages in a variety of formats, including large print and audio. You can request any item that is not immediately available.

Free drop-in baby rhyme time sessions are held every Friday from 2.15pm to 2.45pm.

We have a range of fair trade gift items and bags for sale in the library.
Join the young volunteers group and inspire others to enjoy the library space and reading. Help to plan events and a variety of activities. The group is for 14 to 16 year olds and meets on Wednesdays between 3.45 pm and 4.45 pm.
A free drop-in children's relaxed storytime session is held every Friday from 10.30am to 11am.

A free drop-in storytime for children under five session is held every Monday from 10:30am to 11am. Attendance is free.
A free drop-in Imagine and play for the under 5’s session is held every Tuesday from 2:15pm to 3pm.
A local history group meets every Tuesday during term time only from 10am to midday. Contact the library for details.
