Sowerby sports village

Sowerby Sports Village is an exciting development which aims to provide facilities for sport and recreation in the area.

Located off Gravel Hole Lane in Sowerby the 11.1 hectare site was transferred to the council in 2016 to be developed for recreational purposes as part of the Sowerby Gateway masterplan.

The ambitious project is well underway. Funding totalling £643,118 was secured from the European Regional Development Fund to part fund Phase 1 of the project. This phase is complete and included land remediation of the former landfill area, installation of a sustainable drainage system, allotments, a car park, a fitness trail, and landscaping for informal recreation.

Hambleton District Council funded Phase 2, which included the installation of grass pitches and an additional car park. A further £511, 912 grant funding was secured from the Premier League, the FA, and the Government's Football Foundation, for a full size 3G artificial pitch. Hambleton District Council funded the build of changing provision adjacent to the 3G pitch.

The 3G pitch and pavilion were officially opened on 4 October 2023.
