Working during Covid-19

For 23 years Sandra has been working as a Reablement Support Worker in North Yorkshire, helping individuals who are recovering from a period of illness to regain confidence and skills back in their home. During Storm Arwen, this work continued despite heavy snow, strong winds and heavy rainfall.

Sandra said: 'Consistency is key to help people progress, and despite the extreme weather, medication had to be delivered to those who needed it. I teamed up with a colleague to be able to visit more homes in my 4x4 but the roads were so bad that flood water still entered through my car doors. We discovered a remote village that had no electricity or hot water and we were able to get food vans and heaters brought in from North Yorkshire Council. We now have trucks we can use during severe weather so we can continue offering this critical support.'
