Open dataThe government has asked all local authorities to make data more transparent on their websites for citizens to be able to see how their council works and where money is spent. North Yorkshire County Council will publish data in an accessible and reusable format in keeping with the Transparency agenda. This data can be freely reused in accordance with the open data licence.
As part of the council's commitment to demonstrating value for money and local government transparency, we are publishing details of all our spending over £500. Commencing in January 2011 we will publish details of spending in the previous month. The information published will include the name of the supplier, the date payment was made, the nature of the expense and the amount paid. Information about payments made to private individuals has been redacted for data protection reasons. Payments made by schools are not included as the money the council receives for schools is passed directly to schools, who manage their own budgets. We are also publishing details of our contracts register for larger items of spending. We will therefore publish details of contracts where the value exceeds £10,000 (excluding those related to individual packages of care), in line with the Council's rules about procurements for larger items of spend. This register will be published on a quarterly basis. We will also publish details of framework agreements and approved lists which the Council has established; these may also be used by other public sector bodies. The estimated total value of the agreement/list shown covers expenditure by all participating bodies and may not reflect spending by the County Council. For details of the Council's expenditure with these suppliers, please review the spending over £500 register below.
