Salary: Up to £90k per annum

Location: Northallerton

North Yorkshire County Council is pursuing ambitious plans for transformation. We face challenges balancing the need to make large-scale efficiencies with our plans for modernisation and commercial growth.

We are looking for a professional, performance-focused leader and decision-maker to shape our future direction in relation to strategic financial management, influence key stakeholders, support service improvement and drive commercial growth.

The post is 1 of 3 similar posts within the council and the postholder will lead on financial management for children and young people’s service. Each of the 3 posts also leads on a cross council theme: procurement, property or commercial management allocated accordingly to strengths, knowledge and interest.

This is not a typical finance leadership role, therefore we advise that interested candidates read the overall job description and have an informal conversation with the corporate director of strategic resources Gary Fielding to explore the dimensions of this role.

In summary the lead business partner approach has three main elements to it:

  1. finance expert: expert financial leadership and management for a portfolio of services
  2. resource agent identifying needs of and accessing a number of strategic corporate resources for a portfolio of services
  3. corporate lead for delivery of procurement, property or commercial management across the council

The right candidate will probably already be working at an executive or senior level in a finance role ideally within a large complex organisation and will have a clear vision of success, a passion for significant challenges, and a track record of delivering lasting results.

North Yorkshire has a growing reputation for both its strategic resources; with public sector finance and LGA innovation award accolades and its children and young people’s service; with successful Ofsted outcomes, award winning innovation programmes and sharing best practice nationally.

This provides the opportunity for ambitious individuals to make their mark, safe in the knowledge that they have a strong base to develop personally and professionally.
