Community and voluntary roles

We offer access to many voluntary and community roles. These can offer valuable experience, huge satisfaction and in some cases open the way to future careers.

Fostering and adoption

Each year, we are responsible for looking after more than 460 children and young people, from babies to teenagers and sibling groups. Often they have special physical, emotional or educational needs and complex family histories. Looking after them can be challenging, but rewarding. Find out more, if you think you have what it takes to be one of our foster carers or want to consider adoption.

Early years and childcare

We have a team committed to the recruitment and training of high-quality staff in early years and childcare. We can offer advice for people looking for work in this area and for people looking to recruit.

Care ambassadors

Care ambassadors work to raise the profile of careers in social care as part of North Yorkshire's care alliance for workforce development partnership. They are social care workers, carers or recipients of care who, as part of a team, promote careers in social care and social care work in general. Care ambassadors receive free training. Find out how to become a care ambassador.

Volunteering opportunities

We offer numerous avenues for volunteers to help in our work. These include: countryside volunteers; the North Yorkshire Rotters, who advise on home composting; volunteering in libraries; the youth justice service and school governors. Further volunteering opportunities in North Yorkshire can be found through Community First Yorkshire.
