Frequently asked questions
Controlled parking zones are indicated by signs which show when you are entering or leaving the zone. In a zone, every street will be subject to waiting restrictions or other parking controls, except where designated parking places are indicated.
Vehicles must always be parked within the marked-out bay markings. Breaking any condition of use, parking outside marked bays, or parking in a suspended parking place, may result in enforcement action.
Examples of parking places include resident, business, doctors or disabled badge permit holders only; pay and display; loading places and motorcycles only.
Parking discs are free from nearby businesses and council offices.
Parking discs should be clearly displayed at all times in designated parking zones across North Yorkshire.
There are certain restrictions for motorhomes parking in North Yorkshire. These can be found below. It is important to always check the local signs before parking in an area.
Park and ride areas
Motorhomes are allowed to park at the Scarborough park and ride sites, but not overnight. Caravans are not permitted.
Other parking areas
Motorhomes are not permitted to park between the hours of 11pm and 7am each day on the following streets:
- North Promenade, Whitby
- East Terrace, Whitby
- Royal Crescent, Whitby
- Links View/Love Lane, Whitby
- Sandside, Scarborough
- Foreshore Road, Scarborough
- Esplanade, Scarborough
- The Beach Road, Filey

- A174 Sandsend, "The Parade"
The restricted times do allow the vehicles to park during the day.
Any other unrestricted road remains available for motorhome parking. It is important to always check the local signs and road markings before parking in an area. There are also many privately owned caravan camping sites along the coast line which welcome guests.
Businesses can request stocks of parking discs to give to customers and visitors.
Contact Harrogate Borough Council, Scarborough Borough Council or your local district council for parking discs in their areas.
We have a parking petitions scheme which allows anyone to raise a petition about parking restrictions in place for a specified location.
