Hazardous waste must be collected and disposed carefully.

Hazardous waste contains substances or properties that might harm people or the environment. That doesn't always mean it is toxic.

Hazardous chemicals cannot be accepted at household waste recycling centres. If you have any that need collecting from home please contact us, giving as much information as you can about what needs to be taken away, including quantity, volume and size - for example, 'two half-full, five-litre tins of paint'.

Hazardous chemicals from a business or charity must be disposed of through a private licensed contractor. Suitable contractors can be found via the yellow pages.

Tell us your views on hazardous household waste disposal

We are seeking views about how hazardous household waste disposal services should be provided in the future.

We currently provide a home collection service to residents who have hazardous waste which needs to be disposed of safely. This includes wastes such as white spirit; some paints and paint cleaners; weed killers and pesticide; brake fluid and anti-freeze.

Our consultation asks questions around a number of potential options for future hazardous household waste collection and disposal services. You can let us have your views here.
