This is a very exciting time to join the North Yorkshire Financial Consultancy to Schools Service. We are one of only nine organisations nationally to have won a contract to deliver the Department for Education’s flagship School Resource Management Advisers contract. Through our expertise in providing financial consultancy and support services to the school sector, we are continually seeking to support our expanding customer base in achieving the most from the management of their resources.
The school sector has undergone a lot of change in recent years and whilst we continue to serve a strong existing customer base, our ambition is to become the largest provider of high-quality financial support to schools in the North of England. This ambition is served by a dedicated and well respected team who provide a strong professional reputation and a significant understanding of the sector.

The North Yorkshire Financial Consultancy to Schools Service provides highly regarded financial support services to schools and academies. We are ambitious to further develop and expand our service offer in the changing education market within North Yorkshire and the North of England. The Service operates as part of North Yorkshire Education Services. Our mission is to “deliver quality services and innovative business solutions that support all schools and settings to be outstanding.”
The service has professionally qualified staff with high levels of finance, accountancy and business skills and experience. This service has been established for over twenty years and offers a unique blend of professional financial services together with an expert knowledge of school and academy financial and business management.
We support our clients with:
- Preparation of annual budgets
- Strategic long term financial planning
- Management of financial resources
- Preparation of monthly management accounts
- Guidance to achieve compliance with recommended standards in financial management
- Achievement of efficient and effective resource management
We work with Maintained Schools and Academies. Our ethos is to work in partnership, ensuring leadership and management engagement, positive implementation of recommendations, embedding change and review of impact.
The North Yorkshire Financial Consultancy to Schools Service is undergoing an exciting development phase; we have been successful in bidding to be a supplier on the Department for Education Framework for School Resource Management Advisers (SRMA). We are delighted with this achievement, being one of nine organisations, nationally, to be chosen to deliver this project. The Team has ambitious plans for further development across the North of England in supporting schools and academies to optimise their use of resources to deliver positive outcomes for pupils.

Head of Finance
Salary: circa £60k plus one-off payment of up to £5.5k plus up to £8k relocation support
Location: County Hall, Northallerton
We are looking for a Head of Finance to join and develop our successful Financial Management Services Team.
As Head of Finance you will have the opportunity to lead and grow our well-respected, dedicated and professional team to continue delivering an excellent service to our existing customers. You will be responsible for building and maintaining strong relations with our senior leaders in the Council and in Multi-Academy Trusts as well as Governors, Headteachers and School Business Managers. You will also provide drive, commercial direction and innovative thinking to develop new financial support products for the school sector and growing our customer base.
The FMS Team provides highly regarded financial support services to schools and academies. We are ambitious to further develop and expand our service offer in the changing education market within North Yorkshire and the North of England.
North Yorkshire County Council has a reputation for delivering high quality services and due to this we are delighted to have been successful in securing work with the DfE to carry out School Resource Management Reviews in schools and academy trusts in the North East and Yorkshire and Humber area which will offer a rewarding and challenging opportunity to support schools and trusts to deliver improvements.
