  • Are you the one to take our financial services into the future?

With ambitious growth plans in motion, this is an exciting time to lead the Commercial Finance agenda. The trading arm of North Yorkshire County Council, the Brierley Group, has a turnover in excess of £100 million and is growing rapidly, as we look for strategic finance leaders who can lead on all commercial financial activities.

As the commercial finance lead across the organisation, you will challenge existing thinking, act as a senior point of contact and drive continuous improvement, ensuring that we are maximising commercial opportunities.

You'll be a member of the finance senior management team for North Yorkshire County Council leading in financial reporting of commercial activity, business planning initiatives, profitability and performance whilst liaising with commercial stakeholders.

Within the portfolio, you will also act as the main finance point for North Yorkshire Education Services and be a senior leader within the North Yorkshire Education Services team with line management responsibility as required. You will take a central role in engagement with third parties when considering merger and acquisition activity and potential partnering arrangements.

We are looking for innovative and credible leaders who are performance focussed and will be committed to steering the future financial direction of commercial activity.

About you

We're looking for a confident, financially astute and organised individual with inspiring leadership skills. You will have experience in mergers and acquisitions and ownership of business cases. Experience of financial management of education services would also be beneficial.

We're looking for someone prepared to hold traded services to account and who has experience of service budgeting and forecasting.

Our financial services might be centred in the public sector but we have many commercial and private sector-style services in place. We need someone to be able to apply well-organised and astute financial management to these and to develop them into the future. A big part of this is an ability to handle change management at large scales.

You'll be presenting and explaining financial matters to large groups, including management boards, so self-confidence and clarity of communication is a must.
