For over 70 years, we’ve been working to make sure that mental health is treated on a par with physical health. Mental health problems exist in our lives, families, workplaces and communities, impacting everyone. We must do as much as possible to prevent mental ill-health – as individuals and as a society. We will continue to call on national and local governments to prioritise reducing the factors known to pose a risk to people’s mental health, enhancing those known to protect it and creating the conditions needed for people to thrive.

“I’ve worked for North Yorkshire County Council as a qualified social worker since 2017. Since this time I have worked within a number of teams which have all been supportive and nurturing. I have been supported to complete my Practice Educator, Best Interests Assessor and Approved Mental Health Professional training as well as in house and commissioned training. The council as an employer offers a number of perks but for me the flexible working system has to be one of the best. It allows me to be autonomous in my time management resulting in the ability to tackle everyday life as and when this might be needed while balancing my work load. Management have always been supportive and understanding and encourage wellbeing and self-care.”

Practice Team and festival of practice annually – NYCC’s practice team are highly committed to continuous development of practice and ensuring that we continue to maintain the highest quality and standards of practice. This includes regular training and CPD sessions, tools and models of practice and our annual festival of practice, which takes place over the course of several weeks and offers a rich array of CPD, formal training, workshops and seminars which our practitioners have access to.

Staff from Tees Esk and wear valley trust and NYCC have worked with people at cross lane hospital to develop a community gardening project. The produce is grown and used by the people on the ward and the surplus produce is donated to the community fridge project in Scarborough and the rainbow centre.

All of our roles allow a flexible approach to working. Whilst work can be undertaken from your home base, there will be a requirement to attend the office on occasions due to service need. While virtual working is promoted as a modern and efficient way of delivering services, the need for face-to-face visits will also be required at times, depending on the needs and circumstances of the individual you are working with.

With this flexibility in mind, we encourage applicants to apply who might wish to work more flexibly or alternative hours ( for example only weekends).
