Bentham Library and Customer Services Centre is on the move.

Bentham library is moving to a new location in North Yorkshire.

The library doors at the Robin Lane branch will close for the last time at 5pm on Monday, 8 May,but the library will re-open in new premises at Pioneer Projects, Looking Well Studios, King Street, High Bentham, as Bentham Community Library at 10am on Wednesday, 17 May.

The new library will be bright and vibrant, with a multi-functional space for events and activities. There will be four computers for customers to use, free wi-fi and more than £10,000 has been spent on new books to offer more choice.

"Sharing the King Street premises with Pioneer Projects brings the library closer to the town centre and means that resources, costs and expertise can also be shared and new initiatives developed," said Chrys Mellor, General Manager Libraries for North Yorkshire County Council.

Sue Vasey, Pioneer Project's Interim Director, said: "Pioneer Projects is really pleased we are able to step in and offer a new home to Bentham Community Library in our building. As well as securing the library for the future, it provides an opportunity for Pioneer Projects' staff and volunteers to support the Friends of Bentham Library (FoBL) and work with them to develop the service for the future."

FoBL Chair, Craven District Councillor Linda Brockbank, said: "The aim of FoBL has always been to keep a library in Bentham. Moving the library into Pioneer Projects will ensure the future of the service in Bentham and has our full support. Our volunteers have done a magnificent job for nearly five years in supporting North Yorkshire County Council to keep the library open and, although FoBL volunteers will become Pioneer Projects' volunteers, FoBL will continue as an advocacy and fundraising group in support of the new community library."

Customers will be able to borrow extra books to see them through the closure period and some services will be available online, including renewals. Overdue charges will not apply for the duration of the closure. For enquiries during the closure period, 9 to 16 May, call 01609 534548. Customers can access e-books, e-magazines and online reference resources 24 hours a day throughout the closure period via our website.

Anyone who would like to be part of this exciting project and volunteer in the new community library should contact Lynda Graveson at Pioneer Projects on 015242 62672 or Chris Joint on 01524 261266.
