The A162 is to be closed on several occasions during the next few weeks to allow Network Rail to carry out bridge maintenance work.

A signposted diversion will be in place.

The bridge is near Barkston Ash, on the road towards Sherburn-in-Elmet. The closures are planned from 7.30pm to 5.30am from Monday 13 August to Thursday 16 August and Monday 20 August to Thursday 23 August. A signposted diversion will be in place using the A63, A19 and A64.

There will also be a one day closure during the week commencing Monday 10 September. The date has not yet been finalised.

County Councillor Don Mackenzie, executive member for highways, said: “Most of this work is at night to keep disruption to a minimum, and the diversion will be clearly signposted. We would like to thank residents and drivers in advance for their patience during this important work.’’
