North Yorkshire residents are being encouraged to take a photo and add a few choice words to inspire others to become more active through making healthier and greener journeys by walking or cycling.
The Travel Reaction photography caption competition is being run by North Yorkshire County Council’s sustainable travel team – and there are voucher prizes of up to £100 to be won.
Entrants are asked to take a photograph of something related to environmentally friendly travel and add an amusing or thought-provoking caption.
County Councillor Don Mackenzie, Executive Member for Access, said: “We are committed to encouraging more people to walk or cycle whenever their journeys allow for a range of reasons, including their own health, cutting congestion on our roads and improving air quality.
“That’s why we have developed our local walking and cycling infrastructure plans for areas across the county, so we have projects ready when opportunities to bid for funding arise, enabling us to build on our record of investing in sustainable, active travel. For the same reason, we’ve created a web page through which any member of the public can submit ideas for active travel improvements.
“This competition is a fun way to help to spread the message and I hope it will spark the imaginations of residents across the county.”
Entries will be judged by a panel of County Council representatives on originality, creativity and how well they fit the brief. The winner will receive a £100 shopping voucher, with second and third place receiving £75 and £50 vouchers respectively.
All winning entries will be framed and showcased in a sustainable art exhibition at County Hall, Northallerton, when the building reopens to the public and will be displayed on our social media channels and website.
Photographers have until Friday, 25 September 2020, to email their photograph and caption to firstname.lastname@example.org. The caption can be included in the email. It does not need to be added to the photo.
Entrants must provide their name, address, phone number and email address. Photographs must be taken by the entrant and should be a high-resolution file, preferably JPEG or PDF. By entering, people consent to allow use of their photograph and caption on social media and in other publicity.
