An informal exhibition of plans for the new Overdale Community Primary School will be held on Wednesday, 27 June, from 5pm to 7pm at Jazz Court, Eastfield. Members of the public are invited to drop in during that time, see the plans, ask questions and give their comments.

The County Council’s property consultants, Align Property Partners, have prepared initial designs for the proposed school site, which is less than a mile north of the current school. The proposed school would accommodate 420 pupils plus a three-class nursery. The school hall would be available to community groups outside school hours. The new school would be environmentally efficient and fully accessible to people with disabilities. The project has been developed jointly with Overdale school.

The proposed development would be funded by contributions from developers Kebbell Homes and Keepmoat Ltd and the County Council.

County Councillor Patrick Mulligan, Executive Member for Education and Skills, said: “This is an opportunity for parents and the local community to share their views before the planning application is submitted later in July.

“The new, expanded school site is a priority for the County Council to meet the projected increased need for places because of housing developments and to bring wider benefits to the Eastfield community. It is hoped that in spite of reductions in the level of capital resources it will be possible to see this scheme advance with support from the developers and Scarborough Borough Council.”

County Councillor Tony Randerson, Member for Eastfield and Osgodby, said: “I am delighted on behalf of Eastfield’s residents that this school is going ahead. The site’s location, between the existing Eastfield settlement and new housing developments to the north in Eastfield, supports a long-standing desire to provide improved facilities that link the old and the new parts of Eastfield.”

Jazz Court is an extra care housing scheme and is in Ashmead Square, Eastfield, YO11 3EY.
