An essential programme of repairs and resurfacing to Yorkersgate, Old Maltongate and Commercial Street in Malton is set to begin on Monday (October 4).
Our highways teams will carry out surfacing works on these roads, with footway improvements also taking place on Yorkersgate and Old Maltongate.
“The resurfacing and repair scheme on these busy roads and footpaths will be very welcome for those travelling in Malton as the road surface has deteriorated over the last few years,” said local member Councillor Lindsay Burr. “As resurfacing is weather dependant we need to undertake these works before winter.
“The repairs will ensure that these well-used roads will continue to serve residents, visitors and commuters for years to come.”
Work will take place at the following locations and dates:
- Yorkersgate from October 4 until October 22 between 6pm and 11pm;
- Old Maltongate from October 25 until November 25 between 6pm and 11pm; and
- Commercial Street from November 25 until December 3 between 7.30am and 5pm.
Vehicle access to properties will be restricted but contractors will assist where possible during the working day. Access for the emergency services will be permitted throughout.
Councillor Burr added: “The schemes on Yorkersgate and Old Maltongate are being carried out on an evening to reduce the disruption to local businesses and the travelling public as much as possible. We appreciate that this will cause some disruption to local residents but we are liaising with those affected.
“Unfortunately due to the nature of resurfacing works we have no alternative but to implement a full road closure. We are sorry for any inconvenience and we endeavour to do the work as quickly as possible. We ask the public for their cooperation while the works are being carried out.”
