The parking meters in High Street, Northallerton, have been updated to accept the new £1 coin.

Parking meters are converted to new £1 coin

This means that all 183 of North Yorkshire County Council’s on-street payment machines are now compatible with the new coin.

It is also planned to introduce card payment facilities to the Northallerton machines providing drivers with the option of cash or non-cash payments for tickets. This work is scheduled to be completed in October.

Councillor Don Mackenzie, the executive member for highways, said: “Every effort was made to complete this conversion work at the earliest opportunity to minimise any inconvenience to drivers and we thank them for their patience. The card payment facility will give drivers greater choice in how to pay for their parking.’’
