Road surveys are to be carried out between the B6165 High Bond End junction and the A6055 Boroughbridge Road junction in Knaresborough.
The work is due to start on 14 May and last for four days, from 9am to 3.30pm, and temporary traffic lights may be in use between these times. The work is to enable the detailed design of the new junction improvement scheme to be implemented later this year, which will see the replacement of seven sets of traffic lights with two mini-roundabouts.
The junction was designated an Air Quality Management Area in 2010 and the two mini-roundabouts scheme was one of three options assessed last year to reduce congestion and improve air quality.
North Yorkshire County Council’s executive member for highways, Councillor Don Mackenzie, said: “This is essential preliminary work. The revised traffic arrangements to be brought in later in the year are designed to reduce the numbers of queuing vehicles and idling engines, a major cause of NO2 emissions at the busy and complex junction.”
