Planning and Procurement Solicitor
Grade K and M
Salary: £32,910 to £43,857
Locations: County Hall,Northallerton/ Ryedale District Council Malton
Hours: 37hrs per week
We are looking for a Solicitor/Barrister who can join our team to provide legal support to assist the Council. The role will include advising on a range of planning and/or procurement matters and assisting on drafting terms and conditions on a wide variety of commercial contracts. The role will also include advising at Planning Committee. Support will be provided in any areas of the law where the candidate has not had the relevant experience.
Hold a qualification as a Lawyer, Barrister or FILEX;
Demonstrate knowledge of law in one of the areas within the portfolios. A more in depth knowledge of the specific portfolio would be required for the top level of the role;
Be aware of the political structure and functions of the Council;
Have the ability to communicate effectively in writing to produce documents in a range of formats and style to suit a range of audiences and produce a representative record of meeting discussion and actions;
Have an ability to interact positively with colleagues, clients and elected Members.

As a result of the Covid situation all the legal team are currently working from home. We have laptops and an electronic filing and case management system. In addition we have access to PLC and Westlaw for research, template documents and up to date legislation and case law so are able to work effectively from home. We have regular virtual team meetings and for any new starters we are able to provide regular support and with advice getting to grips with NYCC systems and meeting clients. Post Covid it is likely that you will be expected to attend at Ryedale District Council Offices in Malton 1 to 2 days a week plus attendance at Planning or other Committees as required. There will still be the opportunity to work from home or from Northallerton at other times.
