Young Peoples Service - Compass REACH

In light of the current situation, Compass REACH will be offering virtual appointments to service users in the first instance, however, face-to-face appointments may still go ahead under certain exceptional circumstances and subject to being able to identify a suitably safe venue which can support social distancing.

North Yorkshire Sexual Health Services YorSexualHealth (YSH)

YSH have been gradually re-introducing face-to-face services in as safe a manner as possible. Walk-in appointments are currently not available – all appointments must be booked via the central booking team.

If someone is under 18 and/or are living in a situation where they are unable to safely call, they can text on 07980 973337. A reply will be received within 1 - 2 working days. Please note that this texting service is not for routine enquiries. If safety is at risk, please contact the police.

ALL patients, visitors and staff are required to wear a mask or face covering in all NHS buildings. If you do not have your own face covering YSH can provide a mask when attending pre-arranged appointments.

Horizons – Drug and Alcohol Service

Horizons has continued to operate a clinically critical service across all 5 hubs since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. Face-to-face appointments and drop in harm reduction interventions continue to be available where appropriate and necessary. Other assessments, appointments and groups have been delivered using telephone and digital platforms. The service has worked in line with national restrictions, national clinical best practice and now the roadmap, and is currently preparing for the next phase. It is likely that a blended offer comprising face to face and digital interventions will continue to be available; the package of support will continue to be tailored to individual’s needs.

North Yorkshire Adult Weight Management Service

The Adult Weight Management Service has been operating a ‘remote service offer’ (e.g. live and recorded online classes, telephone, messaging and video calls) throughout the national lockdowns. In accordance with national easing of restrictions and local facility capacity, providers in all areas hope to resume some face to face sessions, alongside the remote offer. All new clients will receive a triage assessment and options of services offered will be discussed individually with each client.

The service offers health assessments, nutritional information and advice, behaviour change support, and both live and home-based physical activity support. The social contact offered through the remote service offer has been particularly important in supporting emotional wellbeing of clients throughout the pandemic.

NHS Health Check Programme

Following national guidance, delivery of NHS Health Check programme is now able to resume across North Yorkshire. The physical clinical test aspect of the service will remain as face to face, however alternative delivery methods for follow up may be more appropriate to take into account staff / patient safety, time and resource.

Warm and well single point of contact

The Warm and Well single point of contact (SPOC) provides support via the telephone and internet to help North Yorkshire residents who are living in or at risk of a cold home, fuel poverty or struggling to afford their energy bills. Referrals can be made either by professionals or by individual householders. This service is continuing to operate and provide support to households.

Healthy lifestyles support for children and young people

Our Public Health Team is currently working in a number of ways to support children, young people and families in North Yorkshire with healthy weight and healthy lifestyles. For example, we work with schools to help them to be ‘healthy schools’, and we are developing healthy packed lunch guidance for local families.

We are also currently working with Leeds Beckett University to test a new, online weight management service for children (aged 4-11 years) and families called Back2Basics. This service is being piloted during 2021 and will offer families support from the comfort of their home via a website, support sessions with a healthy weight specialist (via telephone or video call), YouTube channel videos, and social media. For more information please contact Helen Ingle, Health Improvement Manager, on 07970 290500 or email

Living Well Smokefree

The North Yorkshire Stop Smoking Service, Living Well Smokefree is still operational, providing a 12-week package of telephone support with a specialist advisor and facilitating access to stop smoking medications through local pharmacy and GP provision.
