Reeth and its surrounding landscape has a timeless charm appreciated by both residents and visitors.

So while the party photographed on a well-placed bench are clearly enjoying the views across the district, the outlook remains equally familiar today, many decades later.

The stone buildings help to create a ‘picture postcard’ vista, while the dramatic countryside beyond could never have been created by man’s hand.

Details change, of course, but that bench has resisted the ravages of North Yorkshire weather, and Reeth remains – and will remain – for many people a snapshot of what makes the county so great.
