Staff, patients and visitors at Scarborough Hospital are set to benefit from major junction improvement at Scalby Road/Woodlands Drive and Scalby Road/Stepney Drive.
Work is intended to begin on Monday 1 June 2020 and, weather permitting, is expected to be completed within ten weeks.
Working hours will be predominantly between 7am and 7.30pm weekdays only. Carriageway resurfacing works will be undertaken during weeknights between 7pm and 3am.
We will close Stepney Drive between its junctions with A170 Stepney Road (6th form college) and Scalby Road, day and night, between 15th June and 1st July in order to manage traffic more efficiently during certain parts of the work. Traffic would be diverted via the mini roundabout at the Crown Tavern.
We will be closing Old Scalby Road at the end closest to Stepney Drive between 1st and 12th June.
A signed diversion route for vehicles will be in place whenever a road has to be closed to traffic. Access for pedestrians and deliveries will be maintained all the time.
Works under temporary traffic lights
Resurfacing of Scalby Road will be done 7pm – 3am on various nights between 22nd June – 24th July using temporary traffic lights, we are not planning to close the road. The temporary lights will be staffed so that emergency services would be given priority if necessary.
Work on Woodlands Drive would take place during the day, with reduced lane widths. Again, we are not planning to close Woodlands Drive.
When we are working in the mouth of the ambulance access on Woodlands Drive, the access will be closed for 2 days and 2 nights, with ambulances routed to the main Woodands Drive hospital access instead. When we are working on the Woodlands Drive car park exit, we will be restricting it to half it’s width for two consecutive nights, in the day it will be restored to full width. There may be a little inconvenience from time to time at the car park exit when we are working on Woodlands Drive in the daytime, but our contractors will be working hard to keep any delays to drivers leaving the car park to a minimum. We expect to be working on these two accesses between 24th and 27th July.
We will be liaising with the hospital throughout the works.
