SEND hubs across North Yorkshire provide specialist support to families, schools and education providers.

The majority of children with SEND can have their needs effectively assessed and met within their school. North Yorkshire’s SEND hubs support schools and settings when their own resources have been utilised, but where difficulties remain, so that they can successfully include children and young people who have SEND. This includes those who may or may not have or require an education, health and care plan (EHCP).

The SEND hubs consist of a range of specialist support and provision delivered by highly qualified and experienced staff who support families, schools, early years settings and post-16 providers to effectively and holistically meet the needs of children and young people who have SEND.

All schools and settings in North Yorkshire can refer to the SEND hubs and will need to provide evidence that they have already exhausted their resources and skills in meeting the learner’s needs. All referrals will be assessed, with consideration of the wider context taken into account, e.g., family situation, experience of the setting and involvement of other agencies. If the referral meets the criteria of having significant special needs, which require additional specialist support, then this service is free of charge.

Learners supported by the SEND hubs will all have an allocated keyworker. This professional will lead on liaising with family and school. Their role is to ensure that all parties contribute to setting agreed objectives for the hub intervention, to bring in any other professionals required to meet the child’s needs, and to ensure progress in that intervention is reviewed, with next steps agreed.
