  • Join us to help give children and young people the best educational opportunities.

Our vision for the future is to make North Yorkshire a place of opportunity, where all children and young people are happy, healthy and achieving.

We want all children and young people with SEND in North Yorkshire:

  • To have the best educational opportunities so that they achieve the best outcomes;
  • To be able to attend a school or provision locally, as close to their home as possible, where they can make friends and be part of their local community; and
  • To make progress with learning, have good social and emotional health, and to prepare them for a fulfilling adult life.

Our vision for education provision for children and young people with SEND builds on both the  SEND Strategic Plan for Educational Provision (pdf / 3 MB) and the Young and Yorkshire 2 plan. The SEND Strategic Plan for Educational Provision is an ambitious five year plan which describes how we intend to transform services and educational provision for children and young people with SEND in North Yorkshire.

By April 2020 we will be creating locality based hubs of SEND professionals including SEN caseworkers, educational psychologists, specialist teachers and practitioners, together with speech and language therapists and occupational therapists. Based within four localities across North Yorkshire, the hubs will be responsible for working closely with schools and settings to identify children early and to ensure they receive appropriate support and interventions to meet their special educational needs. The hubs will also build relationships with our colleagues in the NHS and Children and Families’ Service to ensure that our support for families is well coordinated.

Posts in our locality based hubs

The Inclusion Service works in partnership with all schools and settings within North Yorkshire to promote the inclusion, participation and achievement of children and young people with SEND.

Posts are available in the four hubs across the county in Selby; Harrogate, Knaresborough, Ripon and Craven; Scarborough, Whitby and Ryedale; and Hambleton and Richmondshire.

The following posts are available:

Salary: £32,029 to £34,788 per annum
Location: Various
Hours: Full time
Contract: Established

The new Speech and Language Therapy posts will work to complement the work of the existing NHS service within the county, and so will have a role distinct to that which already exists. They will work to enhance our offer to children and families within the statutory EHCP process, providing reports and detailed input to support complex assessments, and to make recommendations about future provision. They will also then be able to offer an enhanced level of speech and language therapy support and intervention for cases requiring it, particularly around building the skills and knowledge of colleagues within the hubs, and within schools, settings and colleges.

An additional focus will be the new targeted provisions being established within North Yorkshire, based in mainstream schools. These will support children who can access a mainstream setting with an enhanced level of support. These new posts will work alongside NHS colleagues to enhance the speech and language therapy support available to staff and children in those provisions. They will be supported in this work by speech and language therapy assistants.

Posts are available in the four hubs across the county in Selby; Harrogate, Knaresborough, Ripon and Craven; Scarborough, Whitby and Ryedale; and Hambleton and Richmondshire.
