You can recycle tools and knives, free of charge, to all our household waste recycling centres.

If your tool is usable, you can take it for reuse at all our sites. If it is unusable, it can be recycled in the scrap metal or wood skip.

We support the Tools for self reliance scheme at Ripon household waste recycling centre and West Harrogate household waste recycling centre. Tools can be donated in the tools container.

This scheme collects unwanted tools and sewing machines and refurbishes them. They are then sent to Africa, where people use them to learn new skills or earn a living to support themselves and their family. Donations for good-quality tools are required for:

  • joiners;
  • motor mechanics;
  • blacksmiths;
  • engineers;
  • plumbers;
  • builders;
  • leather workers, and
  • electricians.

Good quality sewing machines are also required.
