We have been awarded funding from the government's National Productivity Investment fund.
With contributions from ourselves, Harrogate Borough Council and developers, the total package will deliver £4.6m for the improvements. These will be delivered by March 2020.
Among the planned upgrades are improvements to junctions on Otley Road including smart traffic lights, extra traffic lanes and better pedestrian crossings.
The upgrades will help to improve safety and alleviate the levels of congestion currently experienced along the Otley Road corridor, accommodating the existing traffic and future growth along the corridor.
Surveys and design work in relation to the ‘off road’ Otley Road cycle route and junction upgrade at Harlow Moor Road with Otley Road commenced in April this year. The local highways team will be keeping the public up to date regarding design, programme and delivery over the next 12 months here.
Otley Road cycle route
It is intended that the proposed 'off-road' cycle route will be delivered connecting Cardale Park to Beech Grove, enabling cyclists to travel on quiet roads to connect into the town. The introduction of this route will bring additional sustainable travel choices to those already living in the town and the new families occupying the new developments.
Initial consultation and site visits have taken place with Harrogate Borough Council, Harrogate Cycle Forum and Stray Defence representatives. Draft designs have been discussed with all parties and options are still being explored to ensure an ‘Off road’ cycle route can be delivered with minimal impact on the Stray land.
