Residents in Scarborough, Hambleton and Ryedale can apply for funding for energy efficiency measures for their home.

The North Yorkshire Home Efficiency Fund aims to help to reduce energy bills, keep homes warmer and cut carbon emissions.

If you meet the criteria, you can apply to YES Energy Solutions, who are delivering the scheme on our behalf. They will carry out a survey to identify what funding you could receive from the Government’s scheme to upgrade energy inefficient homes.

As well as helping to make homes warmer and more energy-efficient, the scheme supports efforts to cut carbon emissions following the county council’s declaration of a climate emergency in July this year.

Self-employed fencer Peter Benson from Thirsk was struggling to stay warm in his old house. However, energy upgrades from one of our earlier schemes ended his woes.

The 62-year-old had been in the family home all his life, and now lives on his own in the old five-bedroom house.

“I was so happy when I found out it was fully funded, I was made up,” he said. “I could never have done it on my own without the scheme, I couldn’t afford it.

“I’m only self-employed and get work when I can. I’m not a big earner, I’m a low earner. But thanks to YES Energy Solutions and the council, I could get the upgrade, I think it’s a brilliant scheme I really do.

“The installers did such a good job, it’s as neat as it can be and the staff I spoke to on the phone were very helpful.”
