YorBus - Connecting North Yorkshire

YorBus was a flexible, on-demand bus service that connected the pilot area of Ripon, Masham, Bedale and surrounding villages.

YorBus pilot scheme ended on 30 June 2023

YorBus, the pilot scheme to run a flexible, on-demand bus service connecting Ripon, Masham and Bedale ended on 30 June 2023.

The pilot was originally intended to run for a 12-month period from July 2021 to help us gather information about the costs and benefits of running a digital demand responsive bus service. Last year the scheme was extended for a further 12 months which allowed time to explore some other ways to deliver the service, such as a pre-booking facility.

Questions about the YorBus pilot ending

Why is the YorBus pilot ending?

The YorBus pilot was originally intended to run for a 12 month period from July 2021 to help the council gather data and information about the costs and benefits of running a digital demand responsive bus service.

Following a customer survey in May 2022, it was clear that there were other ways of delivering the service which people wanted us to explore, such as pre-booking, so the decision was made to extend the duration of the pilot for an additional 12 months, up to 30 June 2023. The pilot has now reached its planned end date.

What will happen to the buses and drivers?

The buses and drivers will be transferred to deliver other services operated by North Yorkshire Council.

What other bus services are there in the area?

The 136, 138, 138A, 139, 144 and 159 services will all continue.

There are also a number of community transport operators in the area who can help you get out and about, such as Ripon Car Scheme and Bedale Community Minibus.
