You can view and reserve a range of items in our library catalogue including books, audiobooks, CDs and DVDs.

There are several ways of requesting items, including books, periodicals, audiobooks, CDs, DVDs and language courses. Once an item is available, you will be notified by email or letter.
Requesting books, audiobooks, CDs, DVDs and language courses
You can use your library card number and PIN to request items online through the library catalogue.
These items can also be requested in person at:
- any library; or
- the Supermobile library, to be collected the next time it visits your area.
There is a small charge for requesting books. Books that are not in stock can be requested through the inter-library loans scheme, which carries a further charge. There is no charge for requesting audiobooks, CDs, DVDs and language courses, but hire charges still apply when the item is collected.
Requesting periodicals
Periodical articles can be requested in person from any library. There is a small charge for requesting periodical articles.
Renewing books and other items
You can renew books up to five times without returning items to the library, provided they are not required by anyone else. After that, books must be brought to the library to be renewed. Audio-visual items are loaned for three weeks at a time. A repeat hire charge is made if a CD or DVD is returned late.
Books can be renewed anytime through your online library account.
You can also renew items by calling 01609 532774 and entering your library card number and PIN.
You may also renew your books by:
- bringing the book details to your library;
- telephoning your local library; or
- emailing us at libraries@northyorks.gov.uk.
