We are happy to support local communities and groups who are keen to help improve the quality of their local area. If you’re interested in taking part in a community clean up, then thank you. Your help to keep North Yorkshire clean and tidy is very much appreciated.
We can help community groups with voluntary clean-ups by providing key equipment. We’re able to lend out equipment including hi-vis vests, litter pickers and bags for organised litter picking events.
In most cases we can also arrange for the clearance of any litter collected.
Before you start you should read the community litter pick safety advice on the Keep Britain Tidy website. You can also find information about community litter picks on the Clean Up UK website.

Organising a community litter pick in the former borough of Harrogate
Harrogate area residents can request litter picking equipment online. Your request will be sent to our community engagement team who will contact you to confirm whether the equipment is available for your chosen date. We can provide up to 20 litter pickers and hi-vis vests for you to borrow. All equipment must be collected and returned to our Claro Road depot.
You will need to be covered by public liability insurance and we strongly advise you complete a risk assessment for your litter pick. Please upload a copy of your public liability insurance to the ‘Hire of equipment’ section. If you do not have your own public liability insurance you may be able to get cover from your parish council, a local church, school or another organisation such as your local In Bloom group. You can find a local In Bloom group on the RHS website. Unfortunately, we are not able to provide litter picking equipment without public liability insurance.
Our street cleansing team will usually collect the rubbish. Please state where the rubbish bags will be left and any specific collection requests.
Please send your request five working days before the date of the community litter pick.
