Find out about the proposed investment priorities for Catterick and Colburn.
We are developing a Town Investment Plan (TIP) for Catterick and Colburn as part of a regeneration programme across 32 towns in the county. The plans will help guide future funding bids by ensuring they are targeted to local priorities.
This work is supported by David Skaith, Mayor of York and North Yorkshire and receives funding from the York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority.
Catterick includes the parishes of Colburn, Hipswell, Scotton and Catterick Village. It has one of the most diverse communities in North Yorkshire and is home to Catterick Garrison, the largest garrison in Europe.
It is anticipated that the Town Investment Plan will focus on traffic, public spaces, transport and access to services.
Traffic
Traffic is expected to be perceived as a key issue in Catterick and Colburn, particularly at peak times and along routes linking residential areas, local services and employment sites.
Increasing development in the area may be perceived as placing additional pressure on road networks.
Public spaces
Public spaces play an important role in community wellbeing, social interaction and local identity. The area benefits from its proximity to the countryside, as well as a large amount of green and public spaces. However, there are opportunities to improve the quality, accessibility and functionality of public spaces within the Catterick and Colburn area.
Transport
While there are bus routes linking Catterick and Colburn to neighbouring settlements, there are still challenges for those without access to a car. There are opportunities to improve local transport connectivity, strengthen local transport provision and enhance active travel routes.
Access to services
Access to services such as healthcare, education, employment and retail are essential for the future of Catterick and Colburn. The area has numerous services and facilities available locally, as well as developments associated with the Levelling Up Fund in Catterick town centre and the Catterick Integrated Care Centre. However, there are still opportunities to enhance Catterick and Colburn’s offer further.
