Vision for the future of Ripon

Find out about the proposed investment priorities for Ripon.

We are developing an Investment Plan for Ripon as part of a regeneration programme across 32 towns in the county.

The plans will help guide future funding bids by ensuring they are targeted to local priorities.

This project is supported by David Skaith, Mayor of York and North Yorkshire and part-funded by York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority.

Ripon, North Yorkshire’s only city and one of the oldest in England, is renowned for its rich cultural heritage, strong civic spirit, and active business community. As a key service hub for the Uredale area, Ripon plays a vital role in supporting surrounding rural communities. With it being located near the A1(M), it enhances its potential to improve its accessibility and economic growth.

Following initial engagement with residents, businesses and stakeholders, the Investment Plan is being shaped around several emerging themes:

Economic vitality and business support

Enhancing infrastructure, skill development, and affordable workspaces to support business growth and job creation.

Culture, heritage and green spaces

Protecting Ripon’s unique heritage, improving access to green spaces, and expanding cultural venues and programming to boost tourism and community wellbeing.

Transport and connectivity

Improving public transport links, walking and cycling routes, and developing mobility hubs to support access to services and the evening economy.

Young people, health, wellbeing and access to services

Strengthening community and young peoples’ facilities, and tackling isolation through better outreach, and coordination between voluntary sector providers.

Have your say

To make sure each investment plan reflects local priorities we are inviting residents, business owners and visitors to share their views on their local town and how you think it could be improved.

Ripon YMCA are working with the council to ensure that the plan reflects the views, experiences, and priorities of local young people in the city. For more information, please contact info@riponymca.org.

To have your say visit our Ripon Investment Plan survey page.

The survey closes on Sunday 30 November 2025.

Once the consultation has closed, the feedback will be reviewed and analysed to inform the draft Investment Plan.
