We are developing a Town Investment Plan for Helmsley as part of a regeneration programme across 32 towns in the county. The plans will help guide future funding bids by ensuring they are targeted to local priorities.
This project is supported by David Skaith, Mayor of York and North Yorkshire and part-funded by York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority.
Helmsley is a beautiful historic market town in North Yorkshire and a gateway to the North York Moors National Park and Howardian Hills National Landscape, celebrated for its rich heritage, thriving independent businesses and exceptional quality of place. With landmarks such as the striking Helmsley Castle and Duncombe Park estate and gardens, the town offers a unique blend of history, landscape and cultural charm that continues to attract visitors from across the UK and beyond.
Despite its small size, Helmsley plays a vital role as a rural hub, supporting surrounding communities while offering a distinctive visitor experience rooted in authenticity, heritage and natural beauty. All of this combines to make it one of North Yorkshire’s most attractive and desirable places to live, work and visit.
This plan is being developed collaboratively with local businesses and community organisations to ensure it reflects the town’s ambitions and builds on its many strengths, delivering meaningful and lasting benefits.
The key themes expected to feature in the Town Investment Plan include:
- business, tourism and the local economy
- health, wellbeing, community and sport
- culture, heritage and events
- environment, infrastructure and public realm

To make sure each investment plan reflects local priorities, we are inviting residents, business owners and visitors to share their views on their local town and how you think it could be improved.

The consultation closes on Wednesday 30 September.

A drop-in public consultation event will be held on:
- Monday 20 July at 2pm to 4pm, Helmsley Town Hall

Once the consultation has closed, the feedback will be reviewed and analysed to inform the draft Town Investment Plan.
